Visiting

We know how uncomfortable walking into a new church is. Before you even walk out the door there are so many questions we ask ourselves. Do I dress up? What do other people wear? What do I bring? What will it be like inside? This section is just to put your mind at ease about some of these questions.

What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. It is not possible to be too casually dressed.

What should I bring?
You don’t need to bring anything, though you may want to bring a Bible if you have one. It seems like only half of the people bring one, so you won’t feel out of place either way. If you don’t own a bible we have some free one’s at the door. There is also a space to take notes on our weekly info sheet.

What do you do at this church?
We begin with a reading from the Bible and then a time of people sharing what God has been doing in their lives over the past week. Then we sing some songs, Brian shares the message and we have a time of singing, when communion and prayer ministry is available. Afterwards people linger for a bit and have some snacks. It is not some high tech service. It’s pretty simple. We don’t have flashy video or lighting we just have a simple honest feel.

What happens when I walk in the door?
If you arrive with a few minutes to spare, we hope you will find the opportunity to chat with the welcomers at the door, or those seeking coffee and tea at the refreshments. Feel free to ask for directions to the creche or toilets before the service starts at either 11am or 6.30pm. We hope you feel welcome!

What is the music like?
We sing contemporary worship music lead by a highly talented worship leader and band. It is not like a show, or a concert. The goal is not passionate singing but adoring, exulting, and celebrating all that God is, all that He has done, and all that he will do.

What is the teaching like?
Uncompromisingly Biblical. Brian has a powerful and simple call, to forge a new generation of believers in Scotland who are passionate about God’s word and about prayer, and who are eager to advance the Kingdom of God. Brian is a gifted communicator continually cutting to the heart of issues with clarity and simplicity, shooting straight with people. Our most recent messages can be listened to online.

What kind of people are welcome at Re:Hope?
People who want to seek God and know Him better and move towards godliness are welcome here. We don’t care if you are far from God or near to Him. What matters is the direction in which you’re going.

Why do you emphasise Bible Reading Groups?
We want to forge a people of the Word. Who know it. Who love it. Who are submerged in it over a lifetime. We know how big a challenge it is to read through the bible, and stick with it, but there is something about not going alone that will revolutionize your in the bible. If you want to read more about what Brian’s heart is for our bible groups visit the “about” section of the website.

What is baptism, and do I need to be baptized?
Baptism is the basic first obedience steps for those who have dedicated themselves to Jesus Christ. Don’t ask if it is required, ask if it’s what Jesus wants us to do. Baptism is symbolic of one’s dying and being raised to new life in Jesus. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me.” If you have dedicated your life to Jesus it is time. If you have questions about whether you should get baptized you can send us an email.

What about communion?
All who have dedicated their lives to Jesus remember Christ’s sacrifice by taking communion. The bread represents Jesus’ body; the wine represents his blood which was shed to forgive our sins. We offer communion at the side every week after the message. If you have dedicated your life to Jesus feel free to go back and remember what Jesus did.

Prayer?
We have become convinced that God still hears prayers, and that things change when God’s people pray. We have two times a week set aside for gathering together to simply pray asking God to intervene in our church, in our city, in our nation, and in our world. As well as these three times we love to pray for one another during the worship service. Who wouldn’t want to be prayed for? During the second worship set we have people in the back who want to pray for you. Are you Hurting? Sick? Discouraged? Overwhelmed? Needing Direction? Thankful? Anything! We want to pray with you. After the message, just head over to the prayer team who would love to pray with you.

Where does the money from the offering go?
The use of all money received by Re:Hope is overseen by a board of Trustees lead by our head deacon. We want as much of the offering as possible to be directly invested in advancing God’s Kingdom. It is also important to us that at least 10% of all the offerings go to Kingdom efforts that have no obvious benefit to our specific church. A percentage of all the offerings goes to church-planting in Scotland, and to the persecuted Church around the world through Release International.

Release International serves the persecuted church by providing for the needs of the families of martyrs and prisoners; enabling people to survive persecution and its effects; Helping the persecuted church win those to Christ who are opposed to the gospel; supplying them with bibles and literature; and being their voice to the nations.

To give an offering is to worship God. If you have dedicated your life to Jesus and are a part of Re:Hope you can give in the little box near the communion table on Sunday’s or you can now give online. God has always asked his people to bring an offering because it reveals their heart and demonstrates faith. May God bless your step of faith!
