Re:Mentoring

I have two personal convictions that motivate my passion for mentoring.
One: Nothing is more spiritually essential to me in my personal honest pursuit of God and godliness than the bible. I love the word. When I read it, the Bible feeds my soul. I feel refreshed. But it hasn't always been that way, in fact, this is a rather recent development. A few years ago I began reading the bible over and over again, cover to cover, and asking...

...myself the question, "What three things did I love about this book?" This has been pivotal in my falling in love with God again.

Two: Nothing seems more spiritually impossible to me than reading the bible from cover to cover. How many times have I started and quit within 3 weeks. My rare attempts at reading the bible myself seem to make things worse. I would try to read the bible, not 'get it,' than in frustration stop reading, resulting in guilt and a strong distaste for reading the bible at all. I figured enduring church each week had got to be better than reading this for myself.

These two convictions were originally incompatible, until I realized following Jesus was not meant to be done alone. I need people to help me stay reading the bible and keep me going. Over the last few years, I have had different small groups of people (ideally 3-4 of us) who read at a quick pace through the bible and every week we got together to share the 3 things we loved about what we read. Nothing has been more potent in growing my love for God than the simple desire to read His book continually, encouraged by others with the same heart.

The method is so simple, the result is so potent, I love it. There have been months where I have not had people to read with, I found myself not reading. I am convinced we need one another if we want to grow in our love for God.

We have several people at Re:Hope with the same passion. If you know anyone who wants to try reading through the bible with 2-3 others we have room for them. Don't be intimidated by the work; it is easier than you might think and the results are life-changing.

If this seems beyond where you are at spiritually, consider one of our 2 month introductory Christianity small groups. They explore Questions like, "Who is God?" and "Who is Jesus?" If you are interested in joining one of those short term groups first…

Please send Brian an email expressing interest in our next introductory group.

It is my personal passion, that everyone who desires can be mentored in the area of spirituality.
