Friday 18 May

And now, Lord, consider their threats, and grant that Your slaves may speak Your message with complete boldness, while You stretch out Your hand for healing, signs, and wonders to be performed through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.

Acts 4:29

Picture what your life would look like if you were speaking the good news with complete boldness. Picture if God was backing up your discussions and sharing with miracles that confirmed He is there and that He cares. Might your priorities shift? Might your relationships change?

Maybe imagining that, seems incredibly exciting to you, or maybe it seems scary. Praying for boldness is a bold act in itself, because when God answers, your life is going to change!

I was having a chat with a friend of mine in India recently. We were driving through Delhi, and we talked about how mad the roads are around the city. He told me “David, I really love driving, even crazy driving like this. And I really love sharing the good news with people and seeing God work in their lives. And I really love cooking chicken korma - in fact I can teach you if you like, let’s go and buy some spices.”

Despite political, religious, and social pressure, it is one of my friend’s great joys to share Jesus with people who he meets, with complete boldness. The thing I really love though is that he shares boldly while still being a normal guy who likes other things. His love of the gospel is something that has become integrated into his day to day life. And he regularly sees God turning up, proving He is there.

Here are two challenges for your prayers today:

1. Pray for boldness to start today.

Maybe when I asked you to imagine a life of ‘speaking the good news with complete boldness’ at the start, what came to mind was some sort of roaming preacher, with camel hair robes and a Bible in hand. Praying for boldness will change your life for sure, and God will turn up and do miracles. It can happen in any life situation, wherever you find yourself right now or whatever job you are in. You can integrate being bold into your day, starting with today.

Praying for boldness is a bold step in itself. Pray for a specific opportunity to be bold today. Maybe you do not know exactly what that will look like, or when it will be. So, ask the Holy Spirit to help you notice the opportunity when it comes up. And when you get that opportunity later today, take a deep breath, pray for God to back you up, and go for it!

2. Pray for God to move with healing, signs, and wonders.

We can often fall short of praying for this alongside boldness. The truth is that God is so close to the person you are sharing with and He is ready and willing to stretch out and show He is there. The person you are sharing with is probably not going to ask for healing or a miracle, so ask God on their behalf!

A couple of years ago I was working on a building project. Two of the team members were quite ill. I felt challenged to talk with them and offer them prayer. I was terrified. However, after saying a little prayer, I went for it. One of them said ‘no thanks’, we had a brief chat and that was it. The worst case scenario of rejection turned out to be nothing at all! The other person said ‘yes’, and I prayed. They were amazed at how peaceful they felt afterwards. A little prayer and a step of boldness, and God showed that He was there.
