“Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.”
This passage gives me hope.
How often do we place heroes of the Bible on a pedestal, acknowledging what they did oftentimes without even a second thought. I am guilty of reading over these passages and thinking “Yeah, but that was back then” or “But Elijah was a super-human with a special call on his life to be a prophet and perform God-sized miracles. I’m no Elijah.”
God created each human being with an equal capacity to host the Spirit of God. The real question is, how dependent on the Holy Spirit are we willing to be?
You need to know that you carry more power than you realise. You carry the Holy Spirit of the Living God! You carry the authority of Jesus Christ to administer healing to the sick in his name, cast out demons, see the lame walk, call the blind eyes to see again, and call heaven to earth in your sphere of influence. God is longing to bring his kingdom to earth through your willingness to surrender to him.
I do not know about you, but I am tired of reading and hearing somebody else’s God story. I am hungry for God stories of my own. Let us be the church the world needs us to be; a church God is longing for us to be; a church that is not afraid to pray big prayers to a big God. A God who, through his love, is able to do more than we could ever hope or imagine. Take off the limitations you have placed on yourself about if and how God can use you. Let the Holy Spirit overwhelm you and take you to new heights!
