During fasting week this year, we were both seeking guidance over our future plans and one of our main prayer points was regarding attending a Discipleship Training School (DTS) with YWAM.
This was something that we had been considering over the past few years, but we needed clear guidance that this was what God really wanted for us. The DTS that we were considering was starting on 9th April, so we applied for the course at the beginning of February.
In January I had been experiencing some pain in my lower right abdomen and went to my GP. I was then referred for an ultrasound scan mid-February and, following this, my GP requested an in-person consultation with me to discuss the results.
Up to this point, I wasn’t overly concerned, but during the consultation my GP informed me that there was an abnormality which required further investigation via a CT scan. Alarm bells started to ring in my mind as it was mid-March and the DTS was due to start in under a month.
I explained to the GP that I was planning to leave the country soon for an extended period, but he said that he couldn’t overlook this issue without further investigation and requested an urgent appointment.
I was grateful to receive an urgent appointment for Sunday 24th March, but this only allowed a little over 2 weeks for the scan results to be assessed and confirmed. With the support of many others, we started praying specifically for the results to come back favourably and quickly, as we couldn’t travel without being given the all clear.
This was quite a stressful period for us as the situation was outwith our control and in the hands of others. To participate in this DTS we really needed a minor miracle, so we had to give this over to God and into His hands. In the meantime, my wife started packing in faith, trusting that we would still be going.
A few days after the CT scan, I called the consultant’s secretary to explain the situation and asked for their assistance. I was informed that the process could take a good number of weeks for my scan to be reviewed and the results formally confirmed via the post, as it was not normal procedure to discuss the results over the phone. I was asked to call again in a few days and this time the secretary told me that the consultant had reviewed my scan, but she would need to call me back.
It was also our youngest daughter’s birthday that day, so we had arranged to go out for lunch and on route the phone rang and it was the consultant’s secretary. This was the call that we had been waiting for and, on this particular occasion, an exception was made from their normal procedure and the secretary read out the consultant’s letter over the phone. The scan showed no abnormalities with no further actions required, so with 12 days to spare we were free to travel to Heidebeek to start our DTS.
Yet again, God had answered our prayers in a remarkable way by confirming what He had already told us after Fasting Week about doing a DTS.
As I write this story, we are travelling back to Scotland having completed our DTS and we praise God for He is a way-making, promise-keeping, miracle-working God.
